Petition and letters related to Zahra Sultan
Petition and letters related to Zahra Sultan, daughter of Filban Bashi [the elephant-keeper]: 1-a complaint letter in which she talks about how she was barred from entering the office of Ministers by the servants who receive orders from Ittila‘ al-Saltanah (head of the office) and Mirza Khalil (office secretary), both adversaries of her husband, saying that this is the order of the Prime Minister. She has also gone to the Russian Embassy to meet the ambassador, but was also barred from entering it. She complains that while everyone else can go to the Embassy and plead for justice, Zahra Sultan, whose children are considered nationals of Russia, are deprived of this right. She writes about her children's typhus and how she had visited Sadr al-‘Ulama’ about this and was forced to borrow money for their medication, and that Sadr al-‘Ulama’ also has written on her behalf to the Russian embassy to ask them to put pressure on the Iranian government to pay Zahra Sultan her money. She also warns that she will stage a sit-in in at Sadr al-‘Ulama’'s house. She also mentions that during the reign of Muzaffar al-Din Shah, the government had respected her rights. In the end, she asks the reader to send her back the documents she had sent her/him earlier; 2-a letter on the letterhead of the Russian Embassy, complaining about Zahra Sultan's pleas and the troubles that she has brought to the writer (dated 26 April, 1916); 3-a letter on the letterhead of the Prime Minister addressed to the Ministry of Finance, stating that, upon the approval of the cabinet, Filban Bashi's pension should, from now on, be paid to his daughter, Zahra Sultan (dated 16 August, 1917).
